Lesson 9 Slalom

Purpose:

  • The purpose of this lesson is to teach participants how to make quick turns to avoid obstacles using proper turning and accelerator/throttle techniques while maintaining a space cushion from cones and other vehicles

Objectives:

  • The participant will be able to define and demonstrate the process for completing quick turns to avoid obstacles

Instructor Activities:

  • ✅ Provide Instructions:
    • This lesson is designed to help you make quick turns to avoid obstacles in the trail, using a quick burst of throttle and steering to avoid the obstacle
    • Use left-foot (two-foot) control
    • On direction, begin to weave through the cones while using a quick burst of throttle to unweight the rear end to maneuver tighter corners but avoid excessive wheel spin
    • Always look at the path you want the SxS to take to avoid obstacles
  • ✅ Provide Demonstration
  • ✅ Provide Evaluations
    • Maintain smooth and precise control
    • Do not touch cones
    • Avoid too much SxS lean or tire sliding/lift
    • Respond to fishtailing with proper steering action
  • ✅ Conduct Lesson
  • ✅ Have participants stay inside SxS until all drivers have parked (staged)

Assessment
