Lesson 9 Slalom
Purpose:
- The purpose of this lesson is to teach participants how to make quick turns to avoid obstacles using proper turning and accelerator/throttle techniques while maintaining a space cushion from cones and other vehicles
Objectives:
- The participant will be able to define and demonstrate the process for completing quick turns to avoid obstacles
Instructor Activities:
- ✅ Provide Instructions:
- This lesson is designed to help you make quick turns to avoid obstacles in the trail, using a quick burst of throttle and steering to avoid the obstacle
- Use left-foot (two-foot) control
- On direction, begin to weave through the cones while using a quick burst of throttle to unweight the rear end to maneuver tighter corners but avoid excessive wheel spin
- Always look at the path you want the SxS to take to avoid obstacles
- ✅ Provide Demonstration
- ✅ Provide Evaluations
- Maintain smooth and precise control
- Do not touch cones
- Avoid too much SxS lean or tire sliding/lift
- Respond to fishtailing with proper steering action
- ✅ Conduct Lesson
- ✅ Have participants stay inside SxS until all drivers have parked (staged)
