Lesson 3 - Equipment, Inspections, and Familiarization
Purpose:
- Participants will learn the benefit of properly maintained equipment and vehicle familiarization have on the safe operation of an SxS
Objectives:
- The participant will understand the importance of wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- The participant will be able to conduct in-depth vehicle inspections and check important fluid levels
- The participant will understand the different uses for SxSs and the dangers associated with improper operation, loading, etc.

- 👆 What dangers are associated with failing to wear PPE while operating an SxS and what are the potential effects those dangers have on SxS occupants?
- 👆 If we as a whole recognize the dangers of not wearing PPE, why do policies and procedures exist that do not require the use of PPE while operating SxS?
- 👆 Why is conducting a pre-shift SxS inspection important and what are the potential consequences of failing to conduct an inspection?
- 👆 Provide participants with handouts (pre/post-shift checklist, loading checklist, etc. supplied by AZGFD)
- 👆 What safety concerns are associated with operating an SxS?
- 👆 How can failing to become familiar with SxS safety concerns affect SxS occupants?
